Offering fisherman a lifetime of angling opportunities to explore, it is safe to say that Alaska is THE premier Rainbow Trout Fishing destination in the world. The most famed of all rivers for trophy Rainbows is the Kenai. The Kenai River is annually boasts two runs of King, Silver, and Red Salmon, one run of Pink Salmon every other even numbered year, as well as Dolly Varden and, of course, trophy Rainbow Trout that can exceed 30 inches. Some of the best Rainbow fishing of the year takes place during the Fall after the majority of the summer tourists have left – leaving the river relatively free of pressure. Alaska Steelhead Co. offers day trips concentrating our efforts on the Upper River and Middle River via drift boat and power boat. We use 10 foot 7 or 8 weight single-handed rods as well as 11 foot 6 or 7 weight switch rods for nymph fishing as well as the same size switch rods and shorter lighter weight spey rods for all of our swing fishing. Whether you want to break up your Fall steelheading trip for your chance at a trophy Rainbow Trout, or are just in the area on your own and are only able to fish a day or two, the Kenai River rarely disappoints.
